FROM TOM IN SIERRA LEONE: Mohamed Kabba – Feb. 20, 2016

20160212-009Mohamed Kabba, age about 50, fell from a tree while he was trying to collect palm fronds to use in packing charcoal. This is locally produced by poor farmers, mostly for shipment and sale in towns and in the capital city Freetown. Mohamed first sought help for his injured arm from local native healers.  Only after his arm became gangrenous up to the elbow did he come to an Africa Surgery team member for help.  With funds from Africa Surgery and after an operation requiring three units of blood, a surgeon quickly removed the arm, which saved Mohamed’s life.
