20151223-001Joseph Alieu, age 13, underwent emergency surgery at a government hospital in Sierra Leone to resection his intestines which had been perforated by typhoid fever. His parents were able to pay only about two-thirds of the hospital bills. So, two days before Christmas, Africa Surgery purchased numerous medications and intravenous drips and arranged for the transfusion of one unit of blood without which Joseph could not be expected to survive.
