A Mother, A Student, A Future Filled With Hope

A Happy Story

When 24-year-old Frances Lebbie first began attending classes in the ORMS Skills Training in Computer Technology program at our base, she was determined to build a better future for herself. After learning that she could not afford the tuition, Frances offered something remarkable in return: she volunteered to work full-time without pay so she could continue her education.

Her first responsibility was registering the many patients who came each day to ORMS’s small health clinic. Over time, as her skills grew, Frances became involved in documenting the work of ORMS and Africa Surgery through photographs and videos, helping tell the stories of lives being changed through compassion and care.

In June 2025, Frances and the father of her child joyfully learned they were expecting their first baby. Even during her pregnancy, Frances faithfully continued her work at our base until she went into labor and was admitted to a nearby government hospital.

Complications arose when the baby proved too large for a normal delivery. On March 13, 2026, Frances safely delivered her child by C-section—an operation funded by Africa Surgery.

Today, both mother and baby are doing well.

When Frances is ready to return to our base with her newborn, we are committed to finding a way to begin paying her for the valuable work she does for ORMS and Africa Surgery. Her dedication, resilience, and willingness to serve others have already touched many lives.

We know there are countless worthy causes asking for support, and every donor must carefully decide where to give. When making that decision, we hope you will remember this: Africa Surgery spends every donated dollar directly on helping patients and families like Frances’s. Your generosity provides medical care, surgeries, education opportunities, and hope to people who often have nowhere else to turn.

Frances and her baby came to visit us on May 9. Hopefully, she will return to work at the base soon, with her baby strapped on her back.
