Because of your generosity, hundreds of people in Sierra Leone received life-changing medical care, mobility assistance, and educational support during the first four months of 2026.
🏥 Surgeries & Medical Procedures
Working together with hospitals, medical clinics, and dental teams, Africa Surgery and ORMS coordinated and facilitated:
- 50 adult hernia and hydrocele surgeries
- 35 hernia surgeries for children
- 14 appendectomies
- 12 urinary surgeries, including prostate cancer cases
- 47 orthopedic surgeries for fractures and bone infections
- including 4 amputations
- 24 cataract and pterygium eye surgeries
- 3 major skin grafts
- 2 facial tumor removals
- 2 cesarean-section deliveries
- 1 spinal surgery
- 1 contractured-limb surgery
👁️ Vision & Medical Care
- 47 patients treated for eye diseases and infections, including glaucoma
- 857 out-patients treated for illnesses such as:
- malaria
- typhoid fever
- hepatitis
- diabetes
- trauma injuries
- and more
- 306 people treated for epilepsy
- 11 patients received ongoing wound care and/or physical therapy
- including 2 continuing pain-management treatment programs
🦷 Dental Care
- 649 tooth extractions
- 198 tooth restorations
- 14 chronic jaw bone infections treated
- 2 patients fitted with dentures
♿ Mobility & Accessibility Support
Africa Surgery and ORMS distributed:
- 51 mobility carts
- 14 wheelchairs
- 4 electric wheelchairs
- 52 pairs of crutches
- 14 canes, including 2 for the blind
- 9 bicycles
- Orthotic legs for 4 patients manufactured in the ORMS workshop
- 42 pairs of hearing aids delivered to St. Joseph’s School for the Hearing Impaired
🎓 Education & Student Sponsorship
Through Africa Surgery’s Student Sponsorship Program, 173 students were able to continue their education, including:
- 4 medical students
- 3 nursing students
