A Second Chance to See
When 54-year-old Momoh B. Turay arrived at Africa Surgery’s base in Freetown on April 28, led by his daughter, he was living in complete darkness. Cataracts had stolen the sight in both of his eyes, leaving him entirely dependent on others for even the simplest daily tasks.
Africa Surgery immediately began arranging the care he needed.
In May, Momoh underwent cataract surgery on his left eye. The results were remarkable—his vision was fully restored, allowing him to see again for the first time in years.
With one eye healed and his independence beginning to return, Momoh came back to us on June 26. Africa Surgery arranged the second cataract surgery to restore sight to his right eye, completing the journey from blindness toward full vision.
For most of us, seeing the faces of those we love, walking without assistance, or simply watching a sunrise are everyday experiences. For Momoh, they became precious gifts once again.
